From: line / Sender name
The visible sender name and email address shown in the recipient's inbox — the second-strongest open-rate factor after subject line.
The From: line is the visible sender name and email address shown in the recipient's inbox before they open the email. It's the second-strongest open-rate factor after subject line, and arguably the strongest trust signal in the inbox.
From: line patterns that work include using a human first name (a real person, not "team@" or "no-reply@"), the company name optional but useful for brand recognition, and consistency across sends. Patterns that hurt: changing the From: name frequently, using "no-reply" (which signals "don't bother replying" — exactly the wrong signal for engagement), and using addresses that don't match the visible domain.
Authentication mechanisms (DMARC, BIMI) operate on the visible From: domain. Mismatches between the From: domain and the authenticated domain trigger DMARC failures and deliverability penalties. The From: line is a small surface area but a load-bearing one.
