Newsletter
A recurring broadcast email on a calendar schedule — different from triggered lifecycle email.
A newsletter is a recurring broadcast email sent on a calendar schedule (weekly, monthly, etc.) to a list of subscribers. Distinct from triggered lifecycle emails (welcome, cart-abandon, etc.) which fire based on user actions. Newsletters are the format for editorial content, product updates, curated roundups, and consistent brand presence.
Effective newsletters operate on a small set of structural choices: cadence (weekly tends to work better than monthly for engagement and habit formation, though it requires more content), format (curated roundup, essay, mixed), and length (most modern newsletters target 4–6 minute reads). Consistency matters more than volume — readers form habits around predictable arrival times.
The newsletter economics work for brands building long-term audience relationships. A subscriber who reads your newsletter weekly for two years is worth dramatically more than one who hits an ad once. Most successful product newsletters started as side projects that compounded; the format rewards patience.
